More and more cities around the world are looking into transforming traditional cities into smart cities and Malaysia’s cities are going into that direction as well.

Here are some of Malaysia’s smart cities:

1. Cyberjaya

Cyberjaya is a relatively new city that was built from scratch in 1996. It’s located 35km South of Kuala Lumpur and has a dedicated expressway that connects the city to the capital and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

It’s by far the most progressive smart city in Malaysia, with most of the programs and projects driven by Cyberview, a government linked company.

I’m currently attached to this company and working on various smart city pilot projects and industry development programs.

Cyberview has pursued more than 40 pilot projects to date covering on the areas of mobility, infrastructure, connectivity, IoT and soon, 5G.

2. Kuala Lumpur

Being the capital of Malaysia, the City Hall of Kuala Lumpur is working on to make the city smarter. There are a few projects that have been initiated.

3. Iskandar

Located in the South of Peninsula Malaysia in the state of Johor, this is a newly established area where the government is trying to build a smart city. It’s still in the early stage.

Other cities which the government are keen to make them smart are Putrajaya and Kota Kinabalu.
